Arahaṃ
sammā-sambuddho bhagavā. The Blessed One is Worthy&
Self-awakened.
Buddhaṃ
bhagavantaṃ abhivādemi I
bow down before the Awakened,

One.

bhagavatā dhammo. The Dhamma is well-expounded
by the
Blessed One.(อ.ถนอม)
Dhammaṃ
namasāmi. I
pay homage to the Dhamma.

Supatipanno
bhagavato sāvaka-sangho. The Sangha of the Blessed On’s
Disciples
has practiced well.
Sanghaṃ
namāmi. I
pay respect to the Sangha.

Invocation

Yam-amha
kho mayaṃ bhagavantaṃ We have gone for
refuge to the Blessed
Saraṇam
gatā, One,
(uddissa
pabbajitā) yo no bhagavā satthā (
have gone forth on account of) the
Blessed
One who is our Teacher.
Yassa
ca mayaṃ bhagavato dhammaṃ and in whose dhamma we delight.

Imehi
sakkārehi taṃ bhagavantaṃ With
these offerings we worship most
Sasaddhammaṃ
sasāvaka-sanghaṃ highly that
Blessed One together with
Abhipūjayāma. The True Dhamma& the sangha
of his
Disciples.

let us chant the preliminary passage
Pubba-bhāganamakaraṃ
karoma se: in homage to the
Awakened One, the

known- having realized it
Sabrahmakaṃ, through
direct knowledge-this world
Sassamaṇa-brahmaṇim
pajaṃ sadeva- with
its devas, maras,maras, & brahamas
Manussaṃ
sayaṃ abhiñña sacchikatvā its generations with their
contemplatives
Pavedesi. &
priests, their rulers & common people;
Yo
dhammaṃ desesi adi-kalyānaṃ who
explained the Dhamma fine in the
Majjhe-kalyanaṃ
pariyosāna-kalyaṇaṃ; beginning,
fine in the middle;fine in
The
end;
Satthaṃ
sabbayañjanaṃ kevalaparipuṇṇaṃ who expounded the holy life both in its
Parisuddhaṃ
brahmacariyaṃ pakāsesi, particulars&in its
essence,entirely
Complete,
surepassingly pure:
Tam-ahaṃ

cattāri purisa-yugāni i.e.the four pairs-the eight

purisa-puggalā: Noble

Esa
bhagavato sāvaka-saṅgho- That is the Sangha of the
Blessed
One’s
disciples-
Āhuneyyo
pāhuneyyo dakkhineyyo whorthy of gift, worthy of
hospitality,
Anjli-karaṇīyo, worthy of offerings, worthy of
respect,
Anuttaraṃ
puññakkhettaṃ lokassa: the
incokmparable field of merit for the
World.
Tam-ahaṃ
saṅghaṃ abhipūjayāmi I worship most highly that
Sangha,
Tam-ahamsaṅghaṃ
sirasā namāmi. To that Sangha I bow my head
down.

padīpo viya tassa satthuno, The

way to that goal:
Vandāmi
dhammaṃ ahamadarena tam. I revere that Dhamma with

Saṅgho
sukhettabbhayatikhettasaññito, The
Sangha, called a field better than

best,

ditthasanto sugatānubodhako, who
have seen peace, awakening after

one gone the good way,
Lolappahīno
ariyo sumedhaso, who have abandoned carelessness-
The
noble ones, the wise:
Vandāmi
saṅghaṃ ahamādarena taṃ. I
revere that Sangha with devotion.
Iccevamekantabhipūjaneyyakaṃ, By the power of the merit
I have made
Vatthuttayaṃ
vandayatabhisaṅghataṃ, in giving reverence to the
Triple Gem
Puññaṃ
maya yaṃ mama subbupaddavā, worthy
of only the highest homage,
Ma hontu ve tassa pabhāvasiddhiyā. May
all my obstructions cease to be.
Samvegaparikittanapatha: Passages conducive to Dispassionateness
Idha
tathāgato loke uppanno Here,
One attained to the Truth,
Arahaṃ
sammā-sambuddho, Worthy &
Rightly Self-awakened,
Has
appeared in the world,
Dhammo
ca desito niyyaniko And
Dhamma is explained, leadking
Upasamiko
parinibbaniko out( of
samsara), calming, tending
Sambodhagāmi
sugatappavedito. Toward total Nibbana,
going to
Self-awakening,
declared by one who
Has
gone the good way.
Mayan-taṃ
dhammaṃ sutvā Having heard
the Dhamma, we know
Evaṃ
jānāma, this:
Jātipi
dukkhā jarāpi dukkhā Birth is
stressful, ageing is stressful,
Maranampi
dukkhaṃ, death
is stressful,
Soka-parideva-dukkha-domanassupayasāpi Sorrow,
lamentation,pain,distress, &
Dukkhā, despair
are stressful,
Appiyehi
sampayogo dukkho piyehi Association
with things disliked is
Vippayogo
dukkho yamp’iccham na stressful, separation from
things liked
Labbhati
tampi dukkhaṃ, is
stressful, not getting what one wants
Is
stressful,
Sankhittena
pancupadānakkhandha dukkhā, In
short, the five aggregates for clinging
Are
stressful,
Seyyathīdaṃ: Namely:
Rūpūpādānakkhandho, Form as an aggregate for
clinging,
Vedanūpādānakkhandho, Feeling
as an aggregate for clinging,
Saññūpādānakkhandho, Perception
as an aggregate for clinging,
Sankhārūpādānakkhandho, Mental
processes as an aggregate for
Clinging,
Viññānūpādānakkhandho. Consciousness
as an aggregate for
Clinging.
Yesaṃ
pariññāya, So
that they might fully understand
Dharamāno
so bhagavā, this,
the Blessed One, while still alive,
Evaṃ
bahulaṃ sāvake vineti, often
instructed his listeners in this way;
Evam
bhāgā ca panasa bhagavato Many
times did he emphasize this part
Sāvakesu
anusāsanī,Bahulaṃ pavattati: of his admonition:

Rūpaṃ aniccaṃ, “Form
is inconstant,
Vedanā
aniccā, Feeling is inconstant,
Saññā

Te

Otinnāmaha
jātiyā jarā-maranena, beset by birth, ageing,
&death,
Sokehi
paridevehi dukkhehi domanassehi by sorrows, lamentations, pains,
Upāyāsehi, distresses,
& despairs, beset by
Dukkhotinnā
dukkha-paretā, stress,
overcome with stress(consider),
Appeva
nam’imassa kevalassa “O, that the end of this entire
mass
Dukkhakkhandhassa
antakiriya
of suffering & stress might
be
paññāyethāti known!”

Cira-parinibbutampi
taṃ bhagavantaṃ Though
the total Liberation of the
Uddissa
arahantaṃ sammā-sambuddhaṃ, Blessed
One, the Worthy One, the
Saddhā
agārasmā anāgāriyam pabbajitā, Rightly Self-awakened One, was
Long
ago, we have gone forth in faith
From
home to homelessness with
Dedication
to him.
Tasmiṃ
bhagavati brahma-cariyaṃ carāma, We practice that Blessed One’s
Holy
life,
(
Bhikkhunaṃ sikkhā-sājivā-samāpanaṃ. Fully
endowed with the bhikkhus’
Training
& livelihood.)
Taṃ
no brhma-cariyaṃ, May this holy life of ours being
about
Imassa
kevalassa dukkhakkhandhassa the end of this entire mass of
Antakiriyāya
samvattatu. Suffering
& stress.
(Others)
Cira-parinibbutampi
taṃ
Though
the total Liveration of the
Bhagavantaṃsaraṇaṃ
gatā, Blessed One,
the Worthy One, the
Dhammañca
bhikkhu-saṅghañca, Rightly Self-awakened
One, was long
Ago,
we have gone for refuge in him
In
the Dhamma, & in the Bhikkhu
Sangha,
Tassa
bhagavto sāsanaṃ yathā-sati We
attend to the instruction of the
Yathā-balaṃ
manasikaroma, Blessed One, as
far as our mindfulness
Anupatipajjāma, & strength will allow, and
we practice
Accordingly.
Sā
sā no patipatti,
Imassa
kevalassa dukkhakkhandhassa May this practice of our bring
about
Antakiriyāya
samvattatu. The end
of this entire mass of suffering
&
stress.
